When a parent suffers a job loss, one of the most difficult things can be explaining this to our kids. Remember that kids are way more perceptive than we think. They're going to feed off our energy, and when they're going to know that something's off, remember that our kids may grow up to mimic our responses to stress. It's important that we give them an idea of how to be positive in these situations. Allow them to ask questions and give them honest and concise answers. Make sure they know the temporary nature of the situation and also what the short term impacts may be on the family. It's really important to let them know that you're doing your best and that everything is going scary and can feel devastating. And although your lifestyle may have to change in the short term, you're going to be okay. And just remember, especially now, no matter what you're going through, you're not alone.
