Job loss is one of the most devastating and difficult things people can go through, and it's important that we stay on top of our mental health. Too many of my friends on radio and records have had to deal with corporate restructuring and layoffs lately. It's really important that we maintain our mental health because we want to keep from spiraling and you have to allow yourself to grieve. You're going to feel a lot of emotions. It's going to be anger, sadness, stress, and you have to get all of these feelings out in order to move on. Make sure you stay connected with your family and friends. You've heard me talk a lot about the positive impacts of social interactions. This can also give us a sense of belonging, which we really need at this time. Limit your alcohol use as difficult as this can be. It's really important that we develop routines. Knowing what we're going to do and having a schedule each day can give us a sense of purpose. We all know the importance of exercise and how much of a stress reliever it can be. There's no better time to start to develop this routine than now.
Layoffs and corporate restructuring has nothing to do with your work. So make sure that you stay confident in your abilities. Just remember, no matter what you're going through, you're not alone.
